• In partnership with the Anacostia Coordinating Council, established the Friends of the Anacostia Museum; comprised of individuals, companies, organizations, businesses, civic associations and key community stakeholders who are interested in helping to support the mission of the Anacostia Museum; to foster its use for education, cultural awareness, historic neighborhood preservation, research and recreation; to educate and inspire museum visitors; and to support the museum staff. • Served as a technical advisor to the Office of Councilmember Marion Barry, Ward 8 Standards and Principles of Economic Development designed to coordinate the development projects in Ward 8 to ensure participation of local business and employment of local residents. • Assisted the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission and the Clark/Hunt/Smoot Development Team on the involvement of local and minority businesses in the construction of the DC Baseball Stadium Project. • Facilitated a reception in coordination with the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Office of Councilmember Kwame Brown to report on "LSDBE Participation in the Nation's Capitol: Where Are We and Where Do We Go From Here!." The reception was also designed to introduce Ronnie Edwards and the new Acting Director of the DC Office of Local and Small Business Development. • Served as co-sponsor of Pro-Biz 2006, the largest Small Business Procurement Conference in the Mid-Atlantic Region at the Washington Convention Center. The annual event welcomed over 2,000 attendees and nearly 100 exhibitors and speakers. NAMC-WMAC facilitated the workshop on Construction Opportunities in the Washington Metro Area. • Based on the outstanding efforts of US Congressman Bennie Thompson, coordinated a business briefing and reception entitle: "Rebuilding the Gulf Region—A Commitment to Diversity in the Recovery Effort." An award was presented to Congressman Thompson in honor of his efforts on behalf of minority business in the Gulf Region. • Participated in the development of a "White Paper" from the National Association of Minority Contractors in response to an appeal from Congressman Bennie Thompson on the Hurricane Relief Effort on the Gulf Coast. Participated in an entourage that traveled to Mississippi to participate in the Minority Business Conference held by Congressman Thompson; assisted to facilitate dialog that followed and prepared the draft report at its conclusion. • Established the Friends of Frederick Douglass Community Recreation Center, a non-profit, community based organization to assist the DC Department of Parks and Recreation to preserve, beautify, improve and maintain the grounds, facilities and buildings of the Frederick Douglass Community Recreation Center. • Assisted the District of Columbia Response Team with support on the grounds of the Pentagon Disaster Site; assisted to raise and distribute food and clothing; provided telephone and fax communication and conducted back-rubs, body massages to disaster relief personnel. • From 1987 to 1997, owned and operated a full service bridal consultant business; received local, national and international recognition for exposing minority business to the wedding industry by producing the first-of-its kind Black bridal fashion and trade shows. |
