• Assisting McKissack/Turner/Gilford/Tompkins Joint Venture to conduct outreach to the minority businesses on the construction of the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, which will be located on the Mall in Washington, DC. (Drop Down: MLK Memorial). • Participates on the District of Columbia Public School's Construction and Design Industry Advisory Committee (IAC). The IAC provides organizational leadership for creating, developing and preserving Phelps Career Technology High School. The newly modernized Phelps Architecture, Construction and Engineering High School will prepare students for higher education and careers in the construction industry. Serves as the facilitator of the Phelps Foundation to coordinate industry partners, stakeholders and the community to provide technical, legal and financial assistance to benefit students and programs at Phelps (Drop Down: Phelps Foundation). • Participates on the Organizing Committee of the 2008 Builders Ball to be held on November 8, 2008. The mission of the Builders Ball is to: (1) raise funds for local charities in the National Capital Area; (2) to bring together industry organizations to solidify support of the Design, Real Estate and Construction Industries; (3) to increase the recognition of the Building Industries' contribution to the community; and (4) to recognize those who have contributed to the industry. (Link to www.buildersball.org). • Coordinating the 2008 Commitment to Diversity Awards Gala for the National Association of Minority Contractors—Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Chapter (NAMC-WMA) on June 27, 2008. The Gala award recipients are Tompkins Builders (Major Corporate Partner) and the Telecommunications Development Corporation (Emerging Business) (Link: www.namcdc.org).
• Hosted the Small Business Recruitment Fair to provide subcontracting opportunities for small businesses on the construction of the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital Project for Turner/Gilbane Joint Venture. The new hospital being built on Fort Belvoir, VA is a $747 million dollar medical treatment facility as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program (Link: www.turnergilbane.com) • Participated in two (2) GovConectx Foundation "Matchmaker Event," Holiday Inn Capitol, Washington, DC for service-disabled veteran-owned, veteran-owned, women-owned and HUBZone small business opportunities with federal and national procurement officers, Washington, DC. • Testified before US Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Chair, Sub-Committee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Public Hearing on "Doing Business with the Government: The Record and Goals for Small, Minority and Disadvantaged Businesses." (Drop Down: Norton Hearing) • Participated in the US General Service Administration, National Capital Region's African American History Month Celebration entitled "Salute to African American in the Building Industry. Served as a panelist: "Capital Dreams: African American Entrepreneurs Create a Legacy of Leadership." |
